Motoko Rich reports that Kirkus Gets A New Owner — From The NBA (NY Times 2-10-10). "Herb Simon, the owner of the Indiana Pacers, the NBA team, and chairman emeritus of Simon Property Group, a shopping mall developer, has bought the venerable journal of prepublication book reviews from the Nielsen Company, which announced in December it was closing the magazine." Chief executive of the renamed Kirkus Media will be Marc Winkelman, chief executive of Calendar Holdings and owner of several chains of seasonal retailers. Winkelman is a "voracious reader" and a longtime subscriber to Kirkus Reviews. There will be both a print edition and beefed-up digital offerings.
